BCNE Renaissance Faire FAQ

1. What is a Renaissance Faire?

A Renaissance Faire is “an outdoor celebration of Renaissance life to educate and entertain guests”. We will have entertainers, food, costuming, stalls of wares, demonstrations, a battle arena, and other festivities. Similar types of events occur all over the world and Ren Faires have a very big following.

2. When and Where can I attend the BCNE Renaissance Faire?

Our very first BCNE Renaissance Faire takes place Saturday July 26th from noon to 8pm and Sunday July 27th from 10am to 4pm. The Renaissance Faire takes place in the BCNE Outdoor Ag Arena (formerly known as the rodeo grounds). Unsure where that is? It’s the big open field to the left of the CN Centre front entry.

3. How much is it to get into the BCNE Renaissance Faire?

For our first year, admission is $2 and 16 and under are free!

4. Are Renaissance Faires Strictly Renaissance?

“Renaissance Faire” is often used as a general term to describe any large scale event that delves into some historical culture. We just want to create a weekend of fun and magic, so we welcome you to use your imagination!

5. What is for sale at BCNE Renaissance Faire?

For our first year, we are offering a wide range of vendor goods! We have over 50+ unique vendors. Some are historical in nature and some  are not as strict. Common wares are jewelry, soap, trinkets, arts and crafts, clothing, leatherworking, costumes, and much more! It all depends on what the local artisans have to offer.

6. Will there be entertainment?

Yes! We will have a face painter, a kids zone, animals and more. We are very luck to have a Duels Tournament going on both days in our battle arena as well as local Larping groups doing demonstrations! Saturday there will a Petting Zoo and Sunday will bring our Kids Costume Parade and Costume Contest.

7. Is there food available?

LOTS of food! We will have a food truck area with some of your favorite vendors as well as some new ones from out of town. We will also have snacks available to buy throughout the market. We would recommend bringing cash just in case your favorite little vendor isn’t accepting card transactions.

8. What about drinks?

The BCNE Alehouse can help you with all of your adult beverage needs! This year we are proud to announce Slaughterhouse Craft as our official Meadery! Come by and decide which mead is your favorite! The Alehouse will be open Saturday 12:30-8pm (last call 7:30) and Sunday 11am – 4pm (last call 3:30)

9. Can I wear a costume if I don’t work at the Renaissance Faire?

Yes! As an attendee, you can join in and wear a costume! You can ask what to wear to a renaissance faire, but let’s be honest…. there is SO much choice! So why not start with what is actually a far easier question: what not to wear to a renaissance fair. Our general answer is don’t wear anything uncomfortable! You’re going to be walking around all day, potentially going on adventures and getting into mischief, so you don’t want to wear anything too restricting or shoes that you won’t be able to walk in it. We would usually recommend a basic combination that you can customer later through unique vendors. One thing we know for sure, though, is if you are new to the hobby and wish to attend, everyone will appreciate your enthusiasm and will not call you out for wearing the wrong era! Any effort will be noticed and appreciated.

10. What’s the best preparation to attend BCNE Renaissance Faire 2025?
A) Dress for the weather we are open rain or shine.
B) Bring cash as well as debit/credit
C) Although you are always welcome as you are, wearing a costume can help you immerse in the experience
